Back in July I ran a piece on the special “Silver Anniversary” Boston grand piano – a limited run of just 125 unique instruments produced to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Boston piano brand.
A second 25th Anniversary Boston Edition has now been announced – the Rainbow Collection.
Now you can order any model in Boston’s grand piano collection and specify the colour the inside of the lid is lacquered. There are over 170 colours to choose from. The image above shows that the coloured lacquer doesn’t intrude, as the gloss retains its strong reflectivity.
If you go to the Boston site (part of the main Steinway website), you will find a colour selection guide, which gives an idea of how each colour would appear when applied to the piano lid. This is only a guide as different computer monitors render colours in different ways. However, the available tones are all from the RAL palette so consulting the relevant swatches/fans ensures exact colour matching.
Harmonisation
Perhaps Steinway/Boston may be stretching the anniversary thing a bit here. But the idea will appeal to those looking to have something a bit different, or wanting their new piano to compliment their home decor. This is a far more cost effective option than many special order finishes offered by some manufacturers.
Harmonisation can now be both audible and visual.
Please note that the Rainbow Collection may not be available in all countries.
