What is happening on March 29th, 2019?

If you are a member of the European Union you will be fully aware that March 29th is BREXIT day — the day the United Kingdom is scheduled to leave the EU. But it is also PIANO DAY 2019.

Piano Day is an annual global event that takes place on the 88th day of the year (there being 88 notes on a standard piano keyboard). And in 2019, that day is March 29th. For what purpose?… “to celebrate the piano and everything around it”

Across the world, all manner of piano-related events will be taking place. An initial programme can be found on the Piano Day website, and also on the corresponding Facebook page. And this list is constantly evolving as new events are added.

Piano Day Events

A large proportion of the events are piano recitals/performances. These range from those featuring world-renowned pianists to others highlighting the talents and ideas of enthusiastic amateurs. But there are also lectures, masterclasses, clinics, competitions, come-and-plays, and discussion groups at various venues around the globe — many are free.

Piano Day also runs various initiatives to promote the use and profile of the piano. One such scheme unites would-be pianists with unused or unwanted instruments.

Established in 2015, Piano Day is the brainchild of German pianist, composer, and producer Nils Frahm. And since its inception, the celebration has grown considerably year-on-year. More information can be found here — Piano Day 2018.

If you are having a piano inspired event on March 29th, do contact Piano Day, and they will try to support/promote your project. Otherwise, check out what’s happening near you and please support Piano Day 2019 in any way you can.

This is truly a chance to celebrate the piano, and maybe, if you live in the UK, help you to forget the other thing that might happen on Friday, March 29th!
